As someone who lived in social housing as a child, and now rents privately, I’m very much aware of both the importance of social housing and the pressure on generation rent. I would do everything in my power to rebalance our housing needs.
As a Green MP I would support:
- The capping of rent and introduce longer tenancies to provide greater protection for renters.
- Abolishing the cruel and unfair bedroom tax.
- Building 500,000 social rented homes and bring empty homes back into use to ensure everyone has access to an affordable place to live.
- A renter’s union.
- A national Warm Homes programme of insulation and retrofitting – bringing two million people out of fuel poverty, insulating nine million homes, and creating hundreds of thousands of jobs.
